The latest issue of Thorax includes a supplement containing the new, evidence-based British guideline on the management of asthma from the British Thoracic Society/Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN). It is the fourth in a series of influential guidelines which began 12 years ago with the publication of two papers in the BMJ (which were subsequently rewritten in 1993 and updated in 1995).
